Thales Australia Selects PrismTech’s Vortex OpenSplice for Integral Computing System
Vortex OpenSplice, an industry-leading data sharing platform, to be implemented on Thales Australia’s ICS for the next-generation protected mobility vehicle, Hawkei
DSEI 2017, London, UK – September 12, 2017 – PrismTech™, a global leader in software platforms for distributed systems, today announced that Thales Australia has selected its Vortex™ OpenSplice™ as the data sharing platform for its Integral Computing System (ICS), implemented in the next-generation protected mobility vehicle, Hawkei, which is being delivered to the Australian Defence Force. Thales is a longtime user of PrismTech’s Vortex OpenSplice software for a wide variety of defence applications around the globe.
ICS is a hardware and software computing infrastructure that will enable third-party Command, Control, Communications, Computers and Intelligence (C4I) systems to be easily integrated into the Army’s new Protected Mobility Vehicle-Light (PMVL), Hawkei. The infrastructure is based on the UK Generic Vehicle Architecture (GVA) Def-Stan 23-09 principles. Hawkei meets the requirements of global defence forces for a highly protected, mobile and integrated vehicle able to operate in an environment under threat from Improvised Explosive Devices (IED), mines and ambushes.
The vehicles use the Object Management Group®’s (OMG®) Data-Distribution Service™ (DDS™) standard as their data communications protocol. PrismTech’s Vortex OpenSplice is the leading (commercial and open source) implementation of DDS and enables high-level communications and interoperability between the vehicles’ advanced onboard systems.
“We are pleased that Thales Australia has selected the capabilities of PrismTech’s Vortex OpenSplice on such a sophisticated vehicle,” said Hans van’t Hag, Vortex Product Manager, PrismTech. “Vortex OpenSplice offers the most-cost effective, proven and reliable solution for data distribution.”
Vortex OpenSplice provides device-to-device data sharing in real time and secure delivery of voluminous data. Vortex OpenSplice is a comprehensive and intelligent data sharing platform for highly distributed real-time systems such as those found in aerospace and defense. “Vortex OpenSplice provides dependable and efficient communications that are essential for the Hawkei fleet,” said Paramvir Thind, ICS Senior Solution Architect, Thales Australia. “Vortex OpenSplice will provide our system with scalable and interoperable real-time data sharing with the required qualities of service.”
